I'm running WDH soon and I surely hope my party finds a middle ground! Running a business can be fun, but the story has to keep going to. In my experience some groups either don't enjoy at all owning and managing an establishment or stronghold, and they just want to hand wave it with a few rolls, or they love it to bits, and they want to do that over adventuring. Thank you guys! I'm sure I'll find a way to give the PCs the tavern experience they want and still get to use the fun villains I want. I would really appreciate any ideas you guys have that I could use to spice up the tavern life.Įdit: Wow I have a lot of proposed solutions and resources now.
I'm done trying to railroad them into plot hooks they obviously have no taste for, so now I basically need to abandon the campaign as written and expand upon the "Running a Business" rules to make a story that revolves entirely around the running of the tavern. They're like "No, no, we're just tavern owners who keep getting distracted." They even get upset when people call them adventurers. has taken up 90% of our table time for the past couple months. Rebuilding it, decorating it, ordering supplies for it, planning special promotions and events for the tavern, etc. Every time I give them a faction hook they say something like "Add it to the list of annoying side quests".Īll they want to do is run the tavern. They could not give a crap about rising within the ranks of any of the factions. The characters in my party are not at all interested in finding the Stone of Golorr or the treasure.
